Introduction
Our Medical Billing & Coding Program helps prepare individuals to pursue a careers as medical billing and coding specialists. Participants will learn the skills to become members of the healthcare and insurance fields. The program emphasizes coding skills and procedures for billing  and examination purposes. The curriculum prepares students to sit and pass the National Healthcareers Association (NHA) certification Exam.

The demand for  persons who understand how to code healthcare services and procedures for third-party insurance reimbursement is growing substantially. In fact, it is one of the fastest-growing careers in the healthcare industry today! Physician  hospitals, pharmacies, long-term care facilities, chiropractic practices, physical therapy practices, and other healthcare providers all depend on medical billing and coding for insurance carrier reimbursement.   These services will continue to hire candidates who specialize in medical billing and coding.

Certification validates your training and says you have the skills and knowledge to preform as a medical billing and coding specialist. To become certified you need to sit and pass the NHA exam and satisfy the practical requirements.

 

Program Objectives

Upon completion of this program students will

  • · Understand how the healthcare & insurance industry work
  • · Use the alphabetic index and tabular list of the ICD-10-CM, and practice coding examples within the CPT
  • · Be able to correctly code medical services, procedures, diagnoses, and treatment
  • · Understand and use of the ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS manuals to identify correct codes
  • · Be able to processes basic claims for medical insurance and third-party reimbursements
  • · Be able to prepare and send invoices
  • · Completing common insurance forms, tracing delinquent claims, and appealing denied claims
  • · Be prepared to sit and pass the NHA certification exam for medical billing and coding

Certification Examination

Opportunities to sit the certification exam are available year round. To register, simply complete the application form on the BIBT website and remit the appropriate fees. Please see exam fee schedule below:
